Bills and Votes

The Bills and Votes dashboard page shows a list of the bills and votes you have chosen to track. Aristotle 360 permits admins to track both Federal and State Bills and Votes. To get to the dashboard page, click on Bills and Votes tab and choose Dashboard. The Bills and Votes Dashboard layout is divided into two main sections. The top section is a summary of bills you are tracking. The lower section is a summary of the votes you are tracking. A brief description of each piece of information shown on the dashboard is below:

Bills You Are Tracking

Number: The bill number.

Title: The title of the bill

Sponsor: The legislator who introduced the bill and is the chief advocate for its passage.

Is Public: This will be either Yes or No. Yes indicates that the bill is viewable on your SharePoint website if you are using Aristotle’s web-posting feature (Contact your Account Manager for more information about integrating Bill information on your website).

Votes You Are Tracking

Session: The session of Congress in which the vote took or will be taking place.
Bill: The title of the bill that was or will be voted on.
Date: The date the vote took place.
Yeas: The number of votes for the bill.
Nays: The number of votes against the bill.
Is Public: This will always be either 'Yes' or 'No'. It tells you if the vote is viewable on your website if you are using Aristotle's web-posting feature (contact your Account Manager for more information about this feature).

Tracking Bills

To track a Federal or State Bill from a feed select button "Track Bill from Feed". Aristotle 360 will default to Federal. You may track a State Bill by toggling to "State".   Due to the underlying data resource the method for adding a Federal and a State Bill are different. The following guide will walk you through adding Federal and State Bills.

Track a Federal Bill

  1. Verify Federal is toggled On
  2. Enter Keyword and hit Search – Use Name of Bill in Keyword and Exact Match Option to make your search more effective.
  3. Click Bill(s) from Result Set that you wish to track. You may track more than one Bill
  4. Select Save or Save/Close. You must save to  store Bill in Aristotle 360

Once saved you can search/open Bill to add additional information within the Custom Details Panel that provides more useful Bill context specific to your organization.

Custom Details:

  1. Bill Name – You may add a custom Bill Name to be associated with your Bill. Example: The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act may be entered in Bill Name as “Obamacare or AHA”.
  2. Position - Position would reflect your organization’s stance on a specific Bill. Importantly, this Position value would carry over into an associated Vote which is used to calculate the Legislator Rating score.  In the future this would drive Bills sponsorship functionality within the My Legislator page.
  3. Comments – This is a brief narrative that describes your Organization’s take on a Bill.
