Packing the Dataset
When you delete a Master Record or Subfile entry, Campaign Manager 5 retains the deleted
file’s space on the hard drive until you Pack the Dataset.

Indexes may become corrupt if a computer is turned off or rebooted without properly exiting
Campaign Manager 5. Packing the Dataset re-indexes your data files, ensuring accurate searches
and Reports. Rebuilding DBF’s (database files) helps ward off certain memory errors that can be
caused by a corrupt file or index.

Aristotle recommend that you pack the Dataset on a regular basis – once every month or so.
During periods of heavy data entry, pack more frequently. Packing the Dataset can take a long
time if the Dataset contains many Records, or less than a minute with a smaller Dataset.

ADVISORY: If you accidentally delete a Record, do not pack the
Dataset! Call Aristotle Technical Support (1-800-243-4401) for assistance
in recalling the deleted Records.
