Add or Modify a Web Part (Content) for CMS

Add a Web Part
To edit the CMS web site and add a web part, log in as an administrator and click on the "Site Action" button in the upper right hand corner of the page.

  1. Select "Edit Page" from the drop down menu. You are now in edit mode.
  2. Click on an "Add a Web Part" component on the page (directly on the yellow bar).
  3. When the pop up window of web parts appears select the appropriate type to add to your page. NOTE: You'll use the "Miscellaneous: Content Editor Web Part" for general content or embedded HTML code. The page will refresh and a new content editor web part will be inserted in your page.
  4. To add content using the HTML Editor, click on the "open the tool pane" link and select the Rich Text Editor button on the right side of the page in the Content Editor window.
  5. Click "OK" or "Apply" in the content editor to save your changes before navigating away from the page.

Modify a Web Part
To edit the web part for the CMS web site, log in as an administrator and click on the "Site Action" button in the upper right hand corner of the page.

  1. Select "Edit Page" from the drop down menu. You are now in edit mode.
  2. Click on "edit" for the web part you want to change and select "Modify Shared Web Part" from the drop down menu.
  3. You can drag and drop the web part to move it anywhere on the page. Or to add or edit the content click on the Rich Text Editor or Source Editor buttons on the right side of the page in the Content Editor window.
  4. Click "OK" or "Apply" in the content editor to save your changes before navigating away from the page.

NOTE: If your CMS web site utilizes a CSS style sheet the Rich Text Editor will have the correct font settings set as default so you DO NOT have to add additional formatting to match the text on the rest of the site.  

Using the Rich Text Editor
The Rich Text Editor (a.k.a. HTML Editor) allows you to override or enhance the CSS style sheet formatting and force changes in the font appearance, add simple tables and tweak the content layout.

Rich Text Editor

FIRST ROW (left to right):

  • CUT - Removes the selected text, table or image and places it on the Clipboard.
  • COPY - Copies the selected text, table or image to the Clipboard.
  • PASTE - Inserts the contents of the Clipboard at the insertion point, and replaces any selection.
  • CLEAR FORMAT - Clears all formatting for the selected text, table or image.
  • UNDO - Reverses the last command or deletes the last entry you typed.
  • REDO - Reverses the action of the Undo command.
  • INSERT TABLE - Inserts a table at the insertion point. You can specify the number of rows and columns, a table caption, and additional table and cell HTML attributes.
  • INSERT ROW - Adds a table row to the table containing the insertion point.
  • DELETE ROW - Deletes a table row from the table containing the deletion point.
  • SPLIT CELL - Divides the selected table cell into two table cells.
  • MERGE CELL - Combines the contents of two or more selected and adjacent table cells into a single

SECOND ROW (left to right):

  • FONT - Changes the font style for the selected text.
  • FONT SIZE - Increases or decreases the font size for the selected text.  
  • BOLD - Bold selected text if it is not bolded, and un-bolds selected text if it is already bolded.
  • ITALIC - Italicizes selected text if it is not italicized, and removes italics from selected text if it is already italicized.
  • UNDERLINE - Underlines selected text if it is not underlined, and removes underlining from selected text if it is already underlined.  
  • ALIGN LEFT -  Aligns the selected text, table, or image to the left edge of the content.
  • CENTER - Aligns the selected text, table, or image in the center of the content/page.
  • ALIGN RIGHT - Aligns the selected text, table, or image to the right edge of the content.
  • NUMBERED LIST - Creates a numbered list for the selected text if it's not numbered, and removes a numbered list from the selected text if it's already numbered.
  • BULLETED LIST - Creates a bulleted list for the selected text if it’s not bulleted, and removes a bulleted list from the selected text if it's already bulleted.
  • DECREASE INDENT - Shifts the selected text, table, or image to the previous tab stop.
  • INCREASE INDENT - Shifts the selected text, table, or image to the next tab stop.
  • TEXT COLOR - Changes the selected text color.
  • TEXT HIGHLIGHT COLOR - Highlights selected text if it is not highlighted, and removes highlighting from selected text if it is already highlighted.
  • LEFT-TO-RIGHT - Converts the direction of the selected text, table, or image, including the reading order, alignment, and overall layout, to a left-to-right orientation.
  • RIGHT-To-LEFT - Converts the direction of the selected text, table, or image, including the reading order, alignment, and overall layout, to a right-to-left orientation.

Use the Save button (bottom right) to implement your changes and the Cancel button (also bottom right) to close the HTML Editor without saving your changes.

NOTE: Below are a few helpful hints to remember when working with HTML or a HTML Editor. 
- To skip down one line at a time, hit “shift + enter”
- The font should be “Verdana,” size “x-small” throughout
- To create a link, highlight the word or words you wish to link.  Click on the icon that looks like a small globe with a chain link in front of it.  In the box that pops up, copy and paste the URL you which to link to in the blank URL box.  Click “OK.”

To access the Source Code editor, log in as an administrator and click on the "Site Action" button in the upper right hand corner of the page.

  1. Select "Edit Page" from the drop down menu. You are now in edit mode.
  2. Click on "edit" for the web part you want to change and select "Modify Shared Web Part" from the drop down menu.
  3. Next select the "Source Editor" from the Content Editor window in the right side of the page. Paste HTML code in the pop up window. NOTE: You may copy and paste any video, audio or widget code provided it includes all of the "embedding" commands.
